As someone who has been studying this industry for the last five years, I can add that this is rather typical. This industry is full of preeners like Edelman, people who think PR is some kind of higher calling. This is a thin skinned lot (and hence the attack on Wendell Potter) that cannot stand any kind of criticism and is obsessed with giving internal industry awards for all these "campaigns." Thanks for calling Edelman out, though its too bad it wont get broader public exposure.

Running around the net looking for terms and quotes to poke dark pr artists in some "counter pr" pieces i've been working on, I found something interesting. Apparently, Mr. Barnum never said "There's a sucker born every minute". An earlier look at him on wiki had attributed this quote to him. I was looking to verify that the "acknowledged father of the modern pr industry" was the guy who said "tasbem". Then I learned the meaning of "sucker" in carnie parlance. it means "customer". I invite all to google P.T. Barnum and then check references. Did they "humbug" the original "humbugger"? Can't wait for the san diego book signing!

The health care bill will offer a $250 discount for all Medicare Part D conscripts if we join this year. It will also provide a discount of 50% for pharmaceutical manufacturers like brand-name drugs in 2011. The health care bill is good, if we give it a chance.

Many thanks for this article: it is astonishing that people are still willing to eat this disgusting product, the result, as you point out, of force-feeding ducks or geese to the point that their livers swell to these outlandish, diseased sizes. The birds are also immobilised in tiny cages for weeks whilst the process takes place, and females (in this case) are discarded at hatching - i.e. gassed, ground up alive or simply dumped, since their livers do not serve the purpose.
The fact that the production of foie gas is illegal - given the extremely low bar - in various countries should alert consumers to what is involved - and the fact that celebrations apparently still indicate to some consumers that their palates must be tickled, regardless of the cost to intelligent, sentient beings is truly lamentable at this stage of human development.
Thanks again for publicising the campaign.
