I recently heard a related news story--at least I think I did--on NPR: Canadians coming to the U.S. for medical care because of long, long waits for even diagnostic procedures. The story included an interview with a U.S. businessman who operates a tour company/travel company for Canadians; the company even opened an office next to a major hospital in Canada because the demand for such trips was so high--according to the story. It seemed like a PR piece for those who want to keep private insurance/avoid govt. provided, universal health care in the U.S. I wanted to check it out--

BUT I haven't been able to find the story on any NPR websites or by Googling for it.

    Did I dream this story?

Please let me know if you heard it. If you heard it and remember what show/when, that'd be great.

a huge amount of this "research" money goes to marketing firms
who write papers promoting off-label uses. These firms then
pay doctors to put their names on them.

because I can't resist a big Ha Ha! I am not of fan of his for so many reasons. As I size acceptance advocate I am repulsed by his suggestions to solve the obesity "crisis" by eliminating plus sized clothing lines. All the while minimizing the risks of second hand smoke, pesticides, and global warming. It is so obvious he is a hired hack trying to distract the public with their personal "failings" and lifestyle issues so we will turn a blind eye to all the ways corporations are killing us. He is certainly mean enough to work for Monsanto, often retorting with personal attacks. (Not that I am any angel in that respect if pushed either!) My apologies to the canines of the world, but it is true. Every dog does get his day! First DeLay, now Fumento. Dubya, you can't be so far behind!!!!

The Republican "contract with America" was broken in 2000 by the Supremes 5-4. And Hilary joins up with Newt to feed from the pockets of Pfizer. Can you trust either party? And the Heritage Foundation? William L. Shirer would have another book proposal.

PR Week (sub req'd) [http://www.prweek.com/us/home/article/535688/army-asking-bloggers-morale-boost/ has an interesting addition] to the story of the U.S. Army contract with Hass MS&L:

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld commented on new media in a speech last month at Johns Hopkins University.

"This is the war of the 21st century," he said, citing 24-hour news networks, US and Iraqi bloggers, and digital cameras. "We all need to [adjust] - government and the media alike."
