According to the article "[http://www.military.com/features/0,15240,85093,00.html DoD Plans for Life After the QDR]" (InsideDefense.com, January 11, 2006), the Pentagon's "strategic communications" review will be led by "Lawrence DiRita, principal deputy assistant secretary of defense for public affairs, and Air Force Lt. Gen. Victor Renuart, Joint Staff director for strategic plans and policy. This panel will define missions and develop doctrine for strategic communications, including public affairs, [[information operations]] and defense support to [[public diplomacy]]."

while reading the Corporate Social Responsibility blog about the tobacco companies i felt the familiar outrage that erupts every time i see a tobacco company listed as a sponsor for something that represents life-, being healthy, physically fit, not being a slave to nicotine. I understand that it was part of the Philip Morris settlement/judgment agreement to focus attention- and TV commercials to this "educating young people not to smoke". When my 14year old son first witnessed this absurd commercial he looked at me, puzzled by the message...."don't smoke kids" ------ yet they are allowed to keep right on selling the product? Shouldn't the settlement agreement have TV commercials warning kids of the dangers of smoking, then show a picture of their mom and dad's lungs? As an ex-ex-smoker I know how hard it is to quit. I would just like to know how a settlement agreement such as this was ever fashioned by attorneys who truly represent the injured party, the plaintiff.
I have copied below an email I sent about a year ago to Family Education Network in response to their weekly email newsltter where they cite Philip Morris being afflilated somehow with their "Family Education" website.i never received a reply other than the automated one..

i wish to only comment on philip morris being a part of your website- i fully understand what they are trying to do- to discourage young
people from smoking- but just how stupid do they think we are? how stupid do they think kids are? when i think about philip morris backing a ballet company???- -- what about the lungs of the dancers? i think it is an insult to my intelligence and to the intelligence of my children for philip morris to be telling my kids to not smoke and turning around and pushing the same product to me- the parent----why not come out and advertise this:: "KIDS- DON'T SMOKE- BUT IT'S FINE IF WE KILL YOUR MOM AND DAD"

I think it is quite ridiculous how Norquist says that if the conversative movement creates a smaller government, they can get another 12 years. The Republicans, with the help of the Democrats, have created the largest government monstrosity on the face of the planet and in the history of the world. What hope could he possible have about creating a smaller government with the war in Iraq raging with no end in sight?

It is as if nobody on the right (or the middle) seems to consider the military a part of government. A real conservative government would have reduced spending on the military, as well as on social programs. It is possible that at this moment in time the U.S. could increase social spending and reduce military spending enough to create a much smaller government than we have now.

When will the good people of this country realize that allegiance to party is meaningless in relation to conservative or liberal values. I can tolerate a true conservative much easier than most of the so-called “liberal” Democrats that are in Congress right now, even though my own view are very much left of center. The effort to dominate the world through military might and economic black mail is nieither a conservative or liberal value—it is just plain wrong.

Um...isn't this guy really bad, as in money laundering and embarassing to the U.S.? How, uh, Why...I don't understand. How is he in charge of Iraq's oil!?! How is this Ok? By the way, loved the press comment by the oil minister on his imposed sebatacle; he thinks the price should have gone up in increments, that the Iraqi people should have been given time to adjust. Sweet economy. Really great infrastructure. Which reminds me-why is it when Bush talks about the infrastructure in Iraq and how good its doing, he fails to mention any people who make up the thing; does he think its a building or something tangible?

I have a story that is very pertinent to what is going on now. I am a civilian, no military or intelligence background, but I have a relative in a high level intelligence capacity that told me 6 months before the Iraq war began that there was NO WEAPONS of any consequence! At the time, I was working for a company in Augusta, Ga. and told some of my co workers about this. I would assume that this company is either an agency run company, or the conversations were picked up at nearby Ft. Gordon, I assume an NSA listening post. Shortly after, I was fired from this company where I had worked for over 5 years. I was approached shortly thereafter by a "company" in Miami that I now know is a black bag operation. In short, I have been harassed by series of jobs that I was approached to take. I can prove everything I say. I recorded conversations with the fake company in Miami, where I was warned about my "political statements". I even had a call from the NSA, and everybody tells me that they never call people on the phone....So far, the media seems to be scared of this story. I live in Arizona, and the reporters at the Arizona Republic were told by the management to "walk away from the story". Can anybody out there offer me some assistance? They have destroyed my career, just like they did with Valerie Plame!
