...which particular Democrats called it a publicity stunt, and when? If not, can you tell us?

Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following statement Tuesday in response to the Democrat-sponsored talk-a-thon, which will delay consideration of further amendments to the Defense Authorization Bill: “While Republicans are focused on the dangers posed by al Qaeda in Iraq, and the warnings that the United Nations and Baker-Hamilton Commission have given in recent days about the consequences of withdrawal, Democrats plan to spend the next 24 hours in what they have described as a 'publicity stunt.' This issue is far too serious to waste the next day on 'publicity stunts.' This is a serious issue, and deserves serious consideration. “Our enemies aren't threatened by talk-a-thons, and our troops deserve better than publicity stunts.”

There's bad news -- the threat to the U.S. from al Qaida is growing -- http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/07/17/AR2007071700743.html and good news -- General Pace says that Iraq has undergone a sea change in security: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,289558,00.html -- or maybe parts of it have, anyway: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/world/4974430.html He did not, however, specify what sort of <a href="http://www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-sea1.htm">"rich and strange" thing</a> Iraq's security might be turning into.

Stopping intellectual genocide in African universities
    Prince Kum'a Ndumbe III (2007-07-12)

'You have not mastered the white people’s foreign tongue? Then you do not have the right to education in your own country, not even at primary school. You have no right to any worthwhile education, however brilliant you are.' Prince Kum’a Ndumbe III calls on Africans to re-appropriate their own languages or face intellectual genocide.

Africa in the new millennium: Interrogating Barbie democracy
    Francis B. Nyamnjoh (2007-07-04)

Inspired by the market logic, the world is currently hostage to a stifling vision of democracy informed by a very narrow idea of what it is to be beautiful, healthy, successful and free. Nowhere is this better exemplified than in the colossal investment that consumer capitalism has made in slimness, the greatest icon of which is Barbie. This image is made and sold aggressively around the world by global consumer and entertainment media to be consumed as the ideal to which all must aspire, if they are to attain the good life. Francis Nyamnjoh assesses the lessons Africa has learned from the implementation of Barbie democracy and examines alternatives to the market model for Africa.

Nice to see that the Internet is not a total Barbie democracy quite yet.

    Just a clarification.

The film sought to show a correlation between changes in Earth's temperature and solar activity. It showed the two variables as pretty much tracking together until the "now" year on the graph.

Unfortunately, the "now" year turned out to be 25 years ago, and in the last 25 years there's not only been an increase in temperature but, according to the interviewer of Durkin, a REDUCTION in solar activity, so the two variables have NOT been tracking together for the past 25 years. In fact, the two variables have diverged markedly in that period.

Even though this could be due to short-term fluctuations, this observation compounds the apparent attempt to mislead by the film maker in ignoring the last 2 decades of data.
