"And this is where the right is the most out of touch." Not exactly. The rightwing top predators who are harnessing the vicious misogyny of the rank-and-file are very much in touch and know exactly what they are doing. What you are seeing is a short-term tactic in the top predators' long-term strategy, the ultimate goal being a society of nothing but serfs and soldiers to serve the needs of the very rich. The strategy is to destroy the middle class and crush the poor so the rich can never, ever be threatened. Attacking the health and finances of half of the non-wealthy population (since rich women will always be able to get whatever they need), and consequently on all who depend on them, is the most efficient single round of socioeconomic grapeshot that can be fired.
Alright, so here it is:
1. I agree with you that all lives matter. The fact of the matter, however, is that African-Americans (Black men, in particular) comprise a very large percentage of the prison population (37.5% as of June, 2015), despite comprising a comparatively small percentage (12.1%) of the population in the United States as a whole.
2. I agree that minimum wage positions should be occupied by the young and unskilled (I'll leave the retired out of this, since I'm of the opinion that companies should still offer pensions to long-serving employees). The fact of the matter, however, is that people's situations are simply not as they should be. We have people with college degrees working for fast food establishments. These are often well educated people that we're talking about. Can we, as a collective, simply condemn these people to poverty, effectively sweeping them under the rug? Everybody has to eat.
3. Please do your best not to disregard scientific consensus. At least, do your best not to disregard scientific consensus when it involves something that has the potential to wipe us out as a species (along with a great many other species, for that matter -- we have a bad habit of thinking that we are the only important living creatures on this planet). Facts are facts, whether they conflict with your personally held beliefs or not. "Good Ol' Mother Nature" hasn't raised worldwide sea levels by almost a foot with the flick of her magic wand -- we have done this ourselves. Some people, sadly, may only take this to heart when all of us as a people are staring death in the face.
4. I'm of the opinion that if employers take care of their employees, the employees will do the same in kind. It does help when members of a staff actually -enjoy- being at work and aren't all dead on the inside.
5. Some schools might perform better under the private sector, sure. Other schools most likely would not. That's the nature of privatization -- it's a gamble. It's like moving into a new apartment. You might end up having a really nice landlord. Of course, you might also end up with a terrible landlord who never maintains the property and then charges you to replace the carpet when you move out, despite it being in the same condition as it was when you moved in. Do you see what I mean? This aside, the thing that the public sector offers education is uniformity. Students should have access to the same variety of classes, everywhere. Their learning opportunities should not be restricted based on the opinions (particularly the religious opinions) of whatever fat cat happens to own their school.
