I think the "enhanced security" procedures were a scam to expand the private sector stake in airport security. Orlando FL airport is throwing the TSA out and replacing them with private security, which apparently is entirely legal and available for any other airport to do. This follows the whole big-biz deal for those full-body scanners produced and sold to TSA buy some company that that a former Homeland Security secretary now owns or directs. This is all about MONOPOLY RIGHT trumping public rights, or as Benjamin Franklin is reported to have remarked, "a republic, gentlemen,... if you can keep it!"

for the most part has been positive. That is compared to the private security company teen aged drop outs who manned the baggage scanners and magnetometers before the TSA's creation. And the National Guardsmen months after September 11, 2001. So would the abuses and corruption cited above stop if airports went back to private security companies as Florida Congressman John Mica proposes? Not just no but hell no. Mica repeats the conservative canard, private industry can do "it" cheaper. And in may respects that is true, because private security companies pay their employees near starvation wages! Reform TSA. Don't scrap it. The question we should be asking is, why does it the American traveling public have to do penitence for the crimes of 19 successful and two unsuccessful fundamentalist morons?

anything, that is, any...one...thing...going on at the airport is too late. if tsa doesn't know and hasn't approved every...single...passanger before, that is, BEFORE each...single...passanger is within 20 miles and/or 20 hours of the airport then tsa is useless. the continuing dog-and-pony show that is tsa so far is, at the very least, a wretched embarrasment.
