have you fogotten what is happening to Bradley Manning. He is being tortured, and has lost all rights just as have thier other 'terrorist' victims. Also in a recent film by John Pilger where he interviews Julian Assange, they show the leaked Ministry of Defence document putting 'investigative journalists' in the same list as terrorists!

The "complex organism model" is not something created by looney libertarians and liberals, but by the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service. Spending billions on increasingly high fences and increasingly expensive security technology cannot overcome the market forces that drive persons to cross the U.S. border in search of employment and higher wages. But many refuse to acknowledge this, and we continue wasting more money on the unattainable goal of sealing the border with Mexico, and use its failure as an excuse to refuse consideration of any reforms that would allow a legal means for motivated but low-skilled individuals to come to the U.S. and work. You state that we should create a more labor-based system that provides temporary opportunities, and I agree. Creating such an alternative is not "open borders," it is simply a moderated way for motivated persons to migrate legally. America needs to accept that the economic forces driving migration flows are too powerful to dam up, particularly if we care about fiscal responsibility; we need to focus on creating the channels through which migration can flow legally. As for Cato and Reason, they are certainly libertarian, but libertarians [http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=11697 lean Republican] in our current political climate. Many Tea Partiers purport to claim the libertarian banner, as do Republican politicians like Ron Paul, [http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/news/104079739.html Ron Johnson], Rand Paul, and others. (Even if those mentioned do not support immigration reform, they do claim to support fiscal responsibility, and our current border security approach is certainly not fiscally responsible). The point is that immigration reform and disdain over wasteful border security spending is not a partisan or "lefty" issue.

Wall St. is nothing more than a rigged casino, full of ponzi schemes. That major corporations and their ("our") government encourage the more affluent among us to base "retirements" on it is alarming and sociopathic. For most of us, it's like a great big lottery ticket that we are pressured to buy. At the same time, major corporations and their government are dismantling our other, more sustainable, retirement options; Social Security, Medicare and pensions. They want us to fund and insure the huge multinanional corporations that rule us, and give us nothing but slogans and empty promises in return.

Um, both the SEIU under Andy Stern and the DNC *are* corporate front groups, in fact. The DNC is neither leftist nor grassroots by any stretch of the imagination, and neither is the SEIU. I mean, McUnions like the SEIU are even horning in on the union-busting business these days: http://www.counterpunch.org/nader04232008.html

This isn't just a street-corner fortune teller, and the sums of money aren't "insubstantial":

"The company has poured tens of millions of dollars into a marketing campaign that features sports heroes and athletes like Shaquille O'Neil promoting the product."

Nonetheless, they aren't being required to stop selling it -- just stop making unsubstantiated claims about it. Check amazon.com; it's there without the claims.

"Go after companies who are really doing harm. How about health insurance companies? Big oil and what they're selling us?"

They have, in case you hadn't noticed.
