CMD to Address the Wisconsin Progressive Festival

The Center for Media and Democracy will be addressing the Wisconsin Progressive Grassroots Festival, on Saturday, February 19, 2011. The gathering will take place in Mazomanie at the Wisconsin Heights school. The event will open with Mike McCabe of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, Dave Newby, the past president Wisconsin AFL-CIO, and Lisa Graves, the Executive Director of the Center for Media and Democracy.

The Progressive Grassroots Festival will also provide an opportunity to organize responses to the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision, which is allowing corporations to spend unlimited money influencing our elections and undermining our democracy--that session will be led by the local chapter of MovetoAmend.org, a national coalition response to expanded corporate power that CMD helps lead. The day's discussion will include responses to the assault on the rights of workers to organize as well as the following topics:

  • US Economic Policy: Down the rabbit hole
  • A community response to the unemployed
  • Why is transportation in reverse?
  • Corporate personhood
  • How will financial reform affect you?
  • Healthcare reform or repeal?
  • The path to educational reform

The day's events begin at 9:30. More information is available at the festival's information page.
