Rick Scott Urges Anti-Health Care Front Groups to Coordinate Their Attacks

Multimillionaire former hospital CEO Rick Scott, founder of the anti-health care reform group Conservatives for Patients Rights, last week distributed a memo to allied groups fighting health insurance reform to try and coordinate the groups' opposition to the so-called "public option." In the memo, Scott wrote that health care reform bills now emerging from the house and senate will be "target-rich environments" but he urged the groups to synchronize their strategies in attacking the bills. He wrote that the goal is to develop a "divide and conquer" strategy. He praised the groups so far for their success in delaying reform, saying, "It's now approaching Halloween, and nothing has passed either house of Congress." Organizations opposing health care reform include Americans for Prosperity, the Tea Party Patriots, the National Taxpayers Union, the Heritage Foundation and the National Center for Policy Analysis. Scott, who was ousted as head of the Columbia/HCA healthcare firm in 1997 after a fraud investigation, now owns Solantic, a chain of low-income, walk-in medical clinics in Florida that serve the same population that would benefit from a "public option."

Columbia/HCA was a partnership of financier Richard Rainwater of Ft. Worth and lawyer Richard Scott.

Under the Balanced Budget Act of 1997- Home health - was struggling; about 1,400 agencies closed nationwide in 1998.

Rainwater also owned a large stake in Magellan Health Care which controls Charter Medical. Magellan, run by Darla Moore, is the largest network of psychiatric hospitals in the country. They are becoming more and more involved in obtaining government money for services formerly not covered as health care, according to Fortune Magazine.

(Note: Rick Scott was terminated by Darla Moore, the wife of Richard Rainwater in 1997. According to Fortune Magazine, the “Toughest Babe in the Business”, Moore created the Corporate Bankruptcy Finance Tool- DIP- (Debtor in Possession), while employed at a Chase bank on Wall Street.

It seems to me this only confirms that in America the poor are considered guilty until proven innocent, while the rich are only guilty if they get caught. Lice breed fastest!

I feel for good, decent Americans, because I can see glimpses of what you are up against. Still... I thank my good luck that I live in the UK; if I get sick I just go to the Doctor, Hospital or Dentist... endof!

I pay my contributions and never have to worry.

if I want private treatment, I can have it, but I don't have to sell my home to get treatment and, yes, there are shortcomings and sometimes the system fails, but on the whole it works and if you offered me the American alternative... my reply: I'd rather stick needles in my eyes!!!

BTW, when I was single with two children I also got decent, low-cost Council housing, free education for my children and later University for my daughter and I.

Thanks to that I was able to escape poverty and better myself, in spite of the tragic loss of my little boy; I had free counselling and was able to get better, overcome adversity and today my daughter and I are productive, tax-payers, instead of criminals or wretches on the street.

How can anybody somebody pretend that their goal in life is to help other people to deal with their situation. Where in fact, they are part of the reason why they are experiencing difficult situation like this one.
