Norman Winarsky, who co-founded the firm that developed Siri and sold it to Apple in 2010, told the New York Times that the third-party services Siri uses to generate its answers were probably to blame for the software’s anti-abortion bias.
"'Those answers would be coming from the Web services that Siri is connecting to, not necessarily Apple,' he said. 'My guess at what’s happening here is that Apple has made deals with Web services that provide local business information, and Apple probably hasn’t paid much attention to all the results.'"
The drug, hospital, insurance, medical supply industries are working daily to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, which would clip the wings of predatory insurance co.s.; would address other fundamenatal flaws, like too few primary care providers, a critical element that Denmark and other industrialized countries excel at; and would eliminate underinsurance and reduce the uninsured. The corporate/right wing alternative is throwing it out and tossing us all to the "free choice" of the market - good luck on negotiating with your corporate hospital chain next time you have a heart attack. The US health care system is a mess. We have to stop the right wing from dismantling the Affordable Care Act and expand it to a publicly financed system that covers all of us.
The author of this article (perhaps like majority of the population) must think that NLP (natural language processing) is magic or that their phone is a sapient being. Presumably the reason the phone's responses are unhelpful has to do with how organizations want to associate themselves with the word abortion. Planned Parenthood wants to emphasize the fact that the majority of their services are not abortion, so they do not want to be considered "abortion clinics." However, an organization that exists solely to condemn abortions would logically associate itself with the word.
What happens if you use "family planning" or "planned parenthood" as your query? If those queries yield no results, then there might be some merit to the claims expressed in this article. Also, who in their right mind would expect a cogent reply when giving their phone a natural language query about its "opinion?"
Another idea that would help get money out of politics is to mandate free media time on television and radio. This could be in the form of debates--not the deceptive ads that dominate campaigns today. Or each viable (however defined) canidate could have a block of uninterrupted time to say whatever he or she wants. Smart, fair people could work out the details. The point is, a lot of money in political campaigns is spent on political ads and shouldn't have to be.
I often see noble men like Mr. Potter refer to the problems with the "Health Care System" and while I concur with him on most all issues; I think it would be better to clearly frame the problem to be with the "Insurance System" and not so much the Health Care Systmen itself. I.E. We have great healthcare here in the US but a very poor insurance mechanism. Having lived and worked in both the US and Denmark, I can clearly see the benefit of a single payor system/national healthcare insurance system.
