People need to be reminded that it was the New York Times that provided the rationale for using war as a re-election platform. In his Feb. 27, 1992 Times column "Comeback Coming" William Safire said that the Bush Senior administration was planning to attack either Libya, Iraq, or North Korea as part of a "Springtime Surprise". Safire said if one of them was not "zapped" then Bush Senior would be proven too weak to deserve to be re-elected. This Phi Beta Kappa at Yale and veteran refused to go to war in order to get re-elected and the Republicans abandoned him and Clinton became President. Safire, Cheney, and Rumsfeld were all Nixon men and the night Saddam was captured Safire boasted that he was having dinner at the Rumsfelds along with the CIA director. If there was an Axis of Evil it was Cheney, Safire, and Rumsfeld.
