Opposition continues to grow to exempting [[menthol]] from the list of cigarette flavorings to be banned under a bill giving the [[U.S. Food and Drug Administration]] authority to regulate cigarettes. Now a group of seven former federal secretaries of health and human services have sent a letter to members of the Senate and House of Representatives protesting menthol's special treatment under the bill, and demanding that the flavoring be banned along with chocolate, fruit and spice flavorings. The seven include [[Joseph A. Califano, Jr.]], [[Louis Sullivan]], [[Tommy Thompson]], [[Donna Shalala]], Richard S. Schweicker, [[Otis R. Bowen]] and F. David Matthews. Dr. Sullivan was involved in the 1990 protest aimed at stopping [[R.J. Reynolds]] from marketing [[Uptown cigarettes]], a mentholated brand the company designed for, and targeted at African Americans.

The US media and the NY Times in particular have seriously misrepresented the actual contents of the latest IAEA report on Iran, which actually shows that Iran is cooperating with the inspectors, and no evidnece of any nuclear weapons program has been found despite the constant barrage of allegations:

In "One Market Under God" and parts of "What's the Matter With Kansas?" He does a great job discussing this stuff in detail. I think this is a strategy to create a generation of people who "lean left" and then when they "grow up" and get stupid jobs that contribute nothing to humanity, they can switch over to the far right and talk about how they "saw the light" at their dumb megachurches or whatever.

Although I agree that slacktivism is socially rampant, both for the individual and in our economy; a more meaningful term is cognitive dissonance. But again as in 1984, adding more words to our language by copying distinct definitions of words, applying the new definitions to newly coined words, is the same as completely erasing the words from all thought, especially if those words reflect the contradictions in the person's thoughts.
Although I believe Mr. McClellan's account, I am still taken back to the day he stood on the south lawn with his "pal" the president as they thought ahead to reminiscing on rocking chairs. Right.
So when, exactly, did he realize he was a whore, but one without honor? Real prostitutes work hard and earn an honest living - they sell their bodies for money, pure commerce.
By contrast, this man sold his soul, his conscience and his integrity for the privilege of being the white house press secretary. And now he has a "Eureka!" moment, conveniently one accompanied by a lucrative book contract?
As much as I detest this administration and the silly, ignorant and dangerous frat-boy at its head, I have even less respect for Scott McClellan. It seems that there's no honor among the thieves at THIS white house.
