While many of the details in this brief article are true, it misses the fact that prior to the United States occupying us we were among the poorest islands in the Caribbean and today we have the highest GDP of any of our neighbors. People did not have access to decent medical care, houses were not built to withstand the hurricanes which constantly threaten the island and our roads were practically nonexistent. While we might not have a vote in Congress, to paint Puerto Ricans as an oppressed people is utter nonsense and completely ignores the huge gains we have made due to our relationship with the United States.
<blockquote>"But until Rep. Hodes spoke -- during the last session of the day -- no one had mentioned that, until just nine months ago, there had been an active covert campaign to influence U.S. public opinion: the Pentagon's pundit program."</blockquote>
Looks like they're still at it:
<blockquote>"There are indications that Petraeus and his allies in the military and the Pentagon, including Gen. Ray Odierno, now the top commander in Iraq, have already begun to try to pressure Obama to change his withdrawal policy.
A network of senior military officers is also reported to be preparing to support Petraeus and Odierno by mobilising public opinion against Obama's decision."</blockquote>

The answer to this dilemma is quite obvious: We need to get The Shadow to regulate all US Government media. — <a href="http://www.fbesp.org/blog">esp</a>
I go to many alternative sites, and I am very sad to see that so many of them believe global warming is part of a government conspiracy. The problem is there have been to many "crises" manufactured by PR experts. (Like the much exaggerated obesity crisis.) Too much chicken little, not enough critical thinking and people tune out to everything.
And when countries like the UK hire government representatives to go house to house to "advise" people on what is in their refrigerators to help cut down on garbage and provide nutritional information (waste reduction and waist reduction), that is just over the top!!! If this ever starts here, God help the budinsky who comes to my door!!!
Happily the economic crisis is forcing people to cut down on consumption so perhaps the silver lining is the planet will benefit.
