Center for American Progress Hangs with the Neocons [1]
Submitted by John Stauber [2] on
Investigative reporter Jeremy Scahill [3] sees the liberal Center for American Progress [4] teaming up with leading neoconservatives [5] and going to bat for Barack Obama [6]'s escalation of the war in Afghanistan. On April 3 CAP hosted a forum titled A New Way Forward in Afghanistan [7] to release their report Sustainable Security in Afghanistan [8]. Scahill notes [9] the event includes "a leading neoconservative activist, Frederick Kagan [10], one of the lead proponents of the 'surge' in Iraq. In addition to being a Resident Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute [11], which was basically Dick Cheney [12]'s bunker away from the bunker in the 1990s, Kagan was also a major figure in advocating the agenda of the neocon-Project for the New American Century [13], which molded the Bush administration's conquistador foreign policy. Kagan's brother Robert Kagan [14] along with William Kristol [15] started a new version of PNAC [16] a few weeks ago, called The Foreign Policy Initiative [17]. Another key figure in the group is Dan Senor [18] (who is married to CNN [19]'s Campbell Brown [20]), formerly L. Paul Bremer [21]'s righthand in Iraq."
