yup and now that there is a request to deregulate GE 2-4-D (50% component of Agent Orange) resistant Corn it won't matter if Whole Foods has bowed down. Anything not organic will most likely be contaminated.
Not to mention, even 'organic' doesn't mean it's really ALL organic.
Labeling IS the only way to allow the consumers to make the choice for themselves.
The Center for Media and Democracy has done a tremendous public service in creating and maintaining this website on the infiltration of ALEC and its minions into the legislative process. BRAVO!!! and THANK YOU, ALEC whistleblower!!!
Some of you may have heard of the "Powell Memorandum," written in August of 1971 by Richmond, VA, attorney Lewis F. Powell, who was named to the Supreme Court by Pres. Richard Nixon a few months later. If you've read this document, you weren't surprised to learn that ALEC came along in 1972.
Powell's memorandum was distributed by the National Chamber of Commerce to its membership under the heading "CONFIDENTIAL MEMORANDUM, ATTACK ON AMERICAN FREE ENTERPRISE SYSTEM," in the AUGUST 23, 1971, issue of its newsletter, "Washington Report." (see the full text at http://old.mediatransparency.org/story.php?storyID=22)
If you haven't read it, by all means do. It is a chilling, detailed plan for deconstructing democracy in the U.S. Even more chilling is how carefully, methodically, and systematically the well-heeled "1%" has successfully implemented the plan by subverting the electoral process and every essential institution of our democratic society.
Right-wing spinmeister Frank Luntz's hysterical exhortations to the Republican Governors in response to OWS on Dec. 1, 2011, was a pathetic "rewrite" of the Powell Memorandum's message. (See Chris Moody's excellent report on Luntz's message at http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/republicans-being-taught-talk-occupy-wall-street-133707949.html)
But, Luntz's ravings should be a a reminder to those who cherish democratic principles to be prepared for more extreme reactions to OWS from those who favor plutocracy over democracy.
It's also worth reviewing a "list of eight 'Rhetorical Tricks' used by propagandists" developed by the Institute for Propaganda Analysis, which between 1937 and 1942 during the lead-up to U.S. involvement in WWII "worked to expose domestic propaganda that the group considered a threat to American democracy." Number 1 on the list: "Fear. Organizations with the most to lose are most likely to resort to fearmongering...." The entire list is published in "Deadly Spin," by Wendell Potter. Bloomsbury Press, NY, 2010.
AGAIN...THANK YOU Center for Media and Democracy!!!!
republicans know that they and their ideas are as dead as their party. this is a last attempt to maintain their grip on power. they know that the more people vote, the more they lose. their hope is that we can't vote. these guys are criminal corporate shills who bow to their bank masters ,in their continued desire to maintain the perpetual state of economic slavery, that they have imposed on the whole world. there are no more secrets. we are wide awake.
no reason to shop at Whole Foods anymore and pay their high prices if what I get there is just like what I would get every where else. Thanks a lot guys. You just sold out Your Special Purpose in the World.
